| Hello,
I had this problem happening to me twice, and I think that I know the cause behind it.
When i installed the ORiNOCO classic gold wifi pc card on my jornada, the jornada started turning itself off in the middle of synchronizing. I tried uninstalling the driver for the wifi card but that didn’t solve the problem. I had to hard-reset my jornada to fix the problem. Then a week later I re-installed the ORiNOCO classic gold wifi pc card (first time I had the wrong card for the driver) and the problem returned.
I tried extending the time after which the jornada should go to auto-suspend, but that didn’t help. I don’t think it even extended the time.
I don’t think this is a common problem as I tried searching the web, but found no solution…
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
msafi,

| Are you running on AC, have you adjusted the power settings for the NIC tranciever? |

| Some WiFi cards allow you to adjust the voltage that is going into the tranciever. Have a look see if yours does.
Does it drop out of you try moving large files over to the H/PC from a LAN share? |

| okay, i think i worded my problem a little unclearly.
the connection doesn't only drop when i try to synchronize, it drops after a fixed interval whether i'm syncing or just connected and idle.
it has nothing to do with whether i'm trying to transfer large files.
the problem occurs even if i'm connected to the PC via USB or Infrared. it occurs even if the wireless pc card not inserted.
it started happening after i installed the driver for the pc card.
...
i just timed the interval after which the connection drops. it's about 2mins (hmm, that's my auto-suspend setting). the pc indicates that the connection has been dropped. the infrared in my thinkpad starts making some weird noise to alert me to re-align the devices. however, the activesync dialog box in the jornada remains open as if the connection is still active, until i hit disconnect. then it disappears without any error messages.
i'll try to increase the auto-suspend time and see if it'll take longer to auto-suspend.
...
okay, i increased the time to 5 mins, and the connection did drop only after the 5mins.
so the problem is clear. the jornada doesn't see any active processes (activesync) and thinks that it's ok to go to auto-suspend, when it's not.
suggestions? |

| The fastest way about it, but last thing you want to hear is to perform a hard reset.
Otherwise you will need a registry editor and go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Tcpip\Parms\NoIdleIfAdapter
Set the value to 1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Tcpip\Parms\NoIdleIfConnected
Set to 1 |

| like a said, first time i encountered this problem, i solved it by a hard-reset. then when i reinstalled the wifi pc card driver, the problem reocurred.
i really don't wanna hard-reset the device again as i'm not sure if it will really solve the problem.
i tried the reg-editing method, but it didn't change anything. the problem still exists even after changing the mentioned values to 1's.
more suggestions to try? |

| Did you soft reset after you made the registry changes? |

| no, i actually did not.
but now i did.
when the jornada is connected to the ac adapter it doesn't suspend, but when it's on battery the problem is the same.
can that be solved? |

| Gee, you're a tough one to please
Do you have
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Parms\AllowSuspend
Also if your batt is low it will always keel over irrespective of the registry settings. |

| i appreciate your help c:amie, but no i don't have the AlloSuspend. could i add it?
syncing when the jornada is on the battery is more imporatant to me than syncing while ac is plugged.
the battery is at max. |

| Nope, you don't want it.
Try setting NoIdleIfConnected to 0, soft reset and try again. |

| Just out of curiousity, does your Jornada auto suspend even if you have MediaPlayer playing music? |

| i changed the NoIdleIfConnected to 0.
on ac adapter:
* no screen dimming.
* doesn't suspend/turn off
on battery:
* screen dims after 15secs (as specified in the setting)
* suspends after 1min (also as specified in the settings)
...
i just tested the jornada with the media player. the wifi pc card is inserted. the jornada is on the battery. the mp3 file is playing...the jornada does NOT suspend. it knows there are active processes; unlike when connected to pc and idle or syncing.
