I have my eye on Ebay on one of these models. Want to see if anyone here can recommend it? And how does it compare with the HP 360XL?

much better than 360lx in some respects, 360lx has the edge in other things.

quick comparison:

360lx has CF and PCMCIA, 4100 only has PCMCIA but it has a modem as well.
360lx has a nice unique white backlight, 4100 is normal green, not too strong. (320lx has a much stronger (but green) backlight than any of these two)
360lx has a quite average keyboard, 4100's keyb is excellent IMO, YMMV
360lx clone (mc16) is nicer in design, black.. 4100 looks like cheap plastic, i hate its cheap looking design.
360lx has none of the too common design faults. 4100's screen can fail (touch screen or sometimes screen develops lines and ...)
360lx is slightly slower than 4100, IMO.
360lx has less ram (8MB) than 4100 (12MB if i'm not mistaken)

all in all 4100 is more usable for me but 360lx (clone, mc16) has a special place in my heart, my first hpc i bought for fun. (my third hpc overall)

that's all i can think of now

forgot to mention. i dunno about the extra programs of 360lx, mc16 has none in ROM except the separately installable gprs and sms stuff. 4100 has a quite nice image viewer and voice recorder in ROM.
couldn't get my senao wlan to work on 4100 worked at first try with 360lx (mc16).

Cmonex, as usual, has hit all the major points about the 4100. I'm on my second one, the first having suffered the dreaded "line failure," a couple of lines of blown pixels. The backlight is better than Velo's and the screen real estate is huge. Cmonex is also right about the keyboard--it's great, as good as the J-720's, though their constructions are very different.

I wirelessly network without problem with an Orinoco Classic Gold card (non-Proxim). I can also GRPS. I'm fond of my 4100, despite the fact that it let me down the first time around. You definitely need the a/c adapter for any networking. The speed is fine, though text-surfing only.

If you get lucky with the screen and count on buying an adapter, it's a worthy investment,
Jake

Thanks, cmonex - that's very helpful. It sounds encouraging about the nicer keyboard.

If I am not mistaken, I think the 3xxLX series has SH3 and the 4100 has MIPS, right?
