| I'm about to buy a pair of cells to rebuild my Jornada's battery. If anyone's interested in getting a new battery, I can order enough cells to rebuild one of my spare packs at the same time. Save on shipping costs. So let me know in a day or three if you're interested.
Also, if you have a battery pack that's near death, I'm willing to re-cell it for the same cost after I've sold my only spare battery pack.
You'd get a used Jornada battery pack with brand new LG 2400 mAh cells inside.
The Jornada 680 came with 1150 mAh cells new, the Jornada 720 with 1500 mAh cells new, and the 728 with 1960 mAh cells new. This 2400 pack would boost the original 9-12 hour runtime figure to 12-15 hours under normal (non-wifi ) use. Charge time will be slightly longer, runtime will be much longer, but otherwise it will act just like your current battery.
If you're interested, I Think I can sell it for $40 US plus shipping from Vancouver, Canada. A quick look online doesnt show a new pack with new, high capacity cells for that price.
Places like http://laptopsforless.stores.yahoo.net/f1262-80001.html have a battery of less than half the capacity that's been sitting dead on a shelf somewhere for 5 years for the same price! Edited by Jax184 2006-07-29 12:25 AM

| laptopsforless have aftermarket 2000 mAh brand new batts (not original HP ). they just show the 1150 mAh original HP battery pic, beyond me why.
but your batt pack would be 2400 mAh again with brand new cells, so it is a better deal. Edited by cmonex 2006-07-29 2:52 PM

| Hi Jax, I'm thinking about your re-celled battery pack. Are you flexible on the price at all? |

| Jax, give us an idea of price breaks, if you could. Like, if 15 people go in on this, then shipping will be free, 25 people, the cost goes to $35 and so on. You might generate more interest. Or, find some deceased batts, remanufacture them and throw them up on hpcbay as ready-to-ship items to generate interest. I think you'd have a better time of it. I'd be more likely to buy a finished product at $40 then the idea of one. Just my two pence.

| oflash,
is that some more of your optimism again?
Jax184,
where are you getting your 18650's from? $40 means you're either getting very pricy cells, or making a good labour charge. |

| C;Orwell,
Checking in on all my insightful and useless posts, fearless founder?
That’s why I mention the price break; I thought there was a lot of expertise in the quote.

um, no, with max brightness and without connectivity a 2000 mAh lasts 9 hours, so a brand new 2400 mAh will last about 12 |

| A few points:
I'm still trying to find the best price on 18650s. Being in Canada increases my shipping costs.
But the shipping on a small order or a fairly large one is almost the same. Therefor if I can get several people interested, the price will go down. Not incredibly much, more like $35, but still.
If I can find a cheaper battery source, I'll adjust the price to match. I'm not making much of anything on these. Just trying to do the H/PC people a favor.
I don't have a source for piles of dead Jornada batteries. I only have 1 spare. That's why outside of that one, I need people to send me their current one to rebuild. Buying old packs to rebuild would drive the cost up as well. |

| I'll go in on the 2400mAH battery sale, if it's still pending... I have need for min 3 max 12 for me :-) I need just the raw cells, BUt would be more than willing to ship my battery containers (alreayd de-celled) and pay you for re-celling them! I'm in Boston, and have a contact in Quebec, if it's of any use. |

| Sounds to me like you're better off doing it yourself.
(That's right, I'm turning down money Again because I think my potential customer doesnt really need me)
But if you don't have the time or something, I'd be willing to do it for you. And if you really have that many to do, I might be able to work out a better price,

| On eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/FOUR-Panasonic-18650-Li-ion-Cylindrical-Cell-2400mAh_W0QQitemZ320009832810QQihZ011QQcategoryZ64472QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
$7.88 per cell, in Q of 4, shipped. I bet if you contact them, and tell them you are buying 20+ cells (just a guess ) they can drop it down significantly, and you will save also on shipping.
Maybe if we order the batteries in bulk, I will do it myself! When I said 3 to 12, I mean just raw cells: at least 1 battery needs immediate refresh, but I also have 3 other laptops/subnotes that could use it at 3 batteries each. |

| I'm looking into cells in bulk right now.
The downside to buying in bulk is that if I have If I have just a few left over, I've actually lost money on this whole thing.
Also, batteryspace.com now sells 2600 mAh batteries for $10.23 each (with solder tabs) if anyone's interested in having the absolute best. The price drops to $9.20 each in orders of 21-50. But those won't be in stock for another month.
So, if say 10 people (plus myself) could confirm that they wanted their batteries rebuilt with 2600 mAh cells in a month, the total cost would be $202.40 for the 22 batteries, $11.26 for the shipping, god only knows what for customs (It was a complete and total buttload last time I had something sent to me, so assume another $50-ish) brings the total cost on cells to in the area of $265 US. Or $24 US for each person for the cost of the batteries. That's not including my labor, or the shipping of the battery pack to and from the customer.
So, would 10 people be willing to commit to absolutly paying say $30 US plus shipping in 1 month's time for a rebuilt Jornada battery using the new 2600 mAh cells?

| I just bought Four LG 18650 Li-Ion 3.7V 2400mAh Batteries with Tabs for US $29.95 on eBay, plus $12.50 for the shipping to Canada... not that bad. I'll be able to rebuild my two 720 batteries for $20.98 each. Just search for LG 18650 on eBay, you can find many for sale!
Batteries without tabs are cheaper, but much harder to solder. |
