3c589d with the Windows CE 2.0 GERMAN

Hallo Guys,

yesterday I bought a 3com 3c589d Ethernetcard.
As recomended on the HCL I wanted to use the card with my 650LX.
3com has drivers for CE 2.0, I know.
But these drivers are only working under Windows CE 2.0 ENGLISH.
But my 620LX has a German Version of Windows CE 2.0.
3Com wrote on the website, that the driver only will work on the Enlish-Version.

My Question is:
Is there any workaround to make the driver work under another laguage than English?

I don´t want to complain, but I think, dear Admins of hpcfactor, you should write on the
HCL that this device (may) only work under the English version of Windows CE 2.0.
If you can mention this fact, you´ll may prevent more people of wasting money for unusable hardware.

But nevertheless, hpcfactor is great and the HCL is very helpfull...

first I had to read the advices on 3com.com more carefully. So it isn´t the fault of the
HCL.

On the page http://www.hpcfactor.com/support/cesd/h/0009.asp there are following steps mentioned:

7# If you are prompted to specify a driver name type 3c589.dll and tap OK
8# After a few seconds the 3Com tray icon should appear and an active Network
connection will be established

Everytime I plug in my 3c589d ethernetcard in my German 620lx I will be asked for a driver. I can enter "3c589.dll" and after that I can see the device in the network-applet. I even took the original 3com drivers with the English Windows CE Service CD from hpcfactor.

But there isn´t any connection established and I could see the 3Com tray icon.
And there aren´t any errror messages. And I took the right driver for Windows CE 2.0.

Thank you for your quick answer C:Amie, but I think the 3c589d won´t work with the German Version. Maybe other user have the same experieces with non-English Version of Windows CE 2.0 and above.

Thanks for the info. I have never had any complaint before from a non-English CE 2.00 user. H/PC Pro is a different story - but it's problematic at best.

Does the dongle light up / the RJ45 port on the hub?

If you can provide me with any more info, I'd appreciate it. As you say if there is a problem on the languages then people should be told about it.

Thank you for you answer!
The dongle does light up, no matter if a cable is connect or not.
The dongle simply blinks. But I think that, the TCP/IP-stuff is not the reason for
the problems. If I connect my 620lx with the 3c589d to my hub the lights of the hub doesn´t light up. So I think that the malfunction of the card is caused by a low-level problem (driver / system)
Manual assignment has no influence on the problem.

I´d like to know, if someone get this card work with an non-English version.
