| Robb,
Welcome to the HPC:Factor boards.
Windows CE comes with the Windows CE terminal application which has a few fo the features of the Windows Hyperterminal, but is predominantly there for dialing modems and rather limited in that regard.
Better news though is that there are other applications out there that provide full terminal and telnet emulation, a great place to start is www.cambridgevx.com who specialise in CE communication and networking utilities.
So long as you can connect the RS232 to the in car PC / IrDA over then you shouldn't have any problems.
blackfox,
Windows CE doesn't nativly support Workgroup brosging. There are some applications such as resco file viewer which can get a limited system list. You need to use the machine name of the pc you want to access.
Please look at the networking guides in the support section, as these will walk you through the process.
HEMP,
There are existing threads on this, have a read:

| hey all,
just got my new 680e, very happy so far.
Got an old laptop PCMCIA wifi card but not sure if it works under CE.
Looked for drivers everywhere can't seem to find anything.
Its a PROTAC WLB - 1100 if that helps. (11mbps, 802.11b compliant)
I've had a look through this thread and can't seem to find anything relevent to my problem.
When i put the card in neither of the lights go on, so i don't think it is compatible.
Would be great if it was though so i don't have to wait a week to get one on ebay.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
stride |

| I have looked a lot of places including the HCL; and all I could find was this. http://www.helpdrivers.com/ingles/listado/panel.asp?marca=Protac&perif=redes
I really don't think it is compatible for Win CE. You may need to buy a new card. You can find good prices on e-bay. Look at earlier posts from others and me for examples of cards that will work for your device.
Okay I went to the trusty dogpile.com and found http://www.cameo.com.tw/support/html/download/wireless.htm

you need to find out which chipset it's using. then download drivers for it from the hcl. a generic driver for identical chipsets should be OK (worked for me ). now, how to find out which card uses which chipset? try http://www.linux-wlan.org/docs/wlan_adapters.html.gz
i couldn't find protac here, but it's a long list with information about many cards. Edited by cmonex 2005-03-24 2:41 PM

| Ok, found the page of specs (http://www.cameo.com.tw/products/html/wireless/wlb-1100.htm) but not sure what you mean in terms of chipset?
When i know the chipset how do i then find the right driver on the (http://www.linux-wlan.org/docs/wlan_adapters.html.gz) page?
You'll need to explain a bit further sorry. |

step 1: find out which chipset your card is.
step 2: go to the HCL, and search for them in the former page and if you find one whose chipset is the same... you'll have a chance.
step 3: collect all the drivers (from the HCL for example ) for the cards that use the same chipset, and try to install them on your device. (not all of them has hpc drivers! )
prefer the more "general" drivers! (if installing them you can see which is general )
i did this way and i have no problems
it's easier and safer if you buy a card that has an hpc driver, but you already have it... might work... good luck! Edited by cmonex 2005-03-27 1:58 PM

| cmonex,
200 posts, congrats...
but isn't post editing working at all for you? It should work in the first 10 minutes... just not the fill 30 that the board setup states is specified.
For the original questioner. CardBus adapters will not work at all under the H/PC. |

| That means i'm not the only one... hahaha
That's how i ended up having 3 J680s, a J720 (broken ) and a J728 , i just thought i needed 'em
fortunately, i've already sold a J680, for i'm not letting go the 720 or the 728
i was going to bid on the item you pointed at (in order to have 3 J680s again ), but the seller won't ship internationally |
