no, you just mentioned that she'll have to flash ce.net onto the simpad:

"1. docs - if you are referring to word docs, you can read them with PocketWord in HPC2k or CE.NET4.1 (you will have to flash the ROM to 4.1)"

i can't see why

well, if she has the SL4 in hpc2k and wants to have it run CE.NET 4.1, she "will *have to* flash the ROM to 4.1). The sentence in () refers to the steps needed to get to 4.1 (assuming that she gets her SL4 in hpc2k, which is what was advertised on that eBay auction).

Here's how I would should have worded it ... ...

"1. docs - if you are referring to word docs, you can read them with PocketWord (you will have to flash the ROM to 4.1) in HPC2k or CE.NET4.1"

Snappy!, I admire your fearlessness... but you must have deathwish

But, you're both wrong.

It should have been worded thus

"1. docs - if you are referring to Microsoft Word docs, you can read them with Pocket Word under HPC2k or using Word Viewer / Microsoft WordPad under CE.NET 4.1 (you will have to flash the ROM on your new SL4 to CE 4.1 if you wish to experience those delights though [read my mellow yet sarcastic tone])"

And there we have it, another fist fight resolved by your friendly local admin... Now then! I'm going to go pray quietly in the corner (thinking of England) while I wait for cmonex to come and kill me

my original problem was simply that flashing ce.net on the simpad doesn't have any relevance to reading word doc's. it's a very very basic rule not to confuse&mix things that are irrelevant to each other. so i think i was and am still right and shame on you, Snappy

i'm going to have an exam tomorrow morning but after that i'll set off and find C:Amie and.. oh i'm not going to tell you all my nasty plans

oh don't worry C:Amie, I will definitely usurp your throne as Admin protect you!!

Worst punishment I can think of is that cmonex lock you up in a cubicle room with only a SIMpad SL4 running CE.NET 4.1 with a CF wifi card without pccard adapter and only let you out when you can access hotmail to read the latest email she sent you!

ok, so maybe I am overusing the strikeout a little too much!

Siemens SIMpad sl4:

I tried out Microsoft reader and I'm perplexed as to how to widen the screen view of the book pages. Do you just have to read the narrow book pages in the middle of the screen? Also, is there a rotating feature to rotate the screen from landscape to portrait?

I also tried out ubook which seems to be infinitely better...might actually wind up paying for it.

But I can't believe there isn't some way to view the pages of a book across the whole screen in Microsoft Reader. Are they really that lame or have I just not figured it out? When I go to settings, there is nothing there to set but a box that you check or uncheck. I even activated the darn thing to to if that would give me some settings, but it didn't help.

Thanks in advance.

There is no native support for portrait viewing/screen rotation for SL4. I already wrote a little app to access the screen rotate apis, and it returned status that only the detault mode is supported, ie no rotation. If anyone found other ways, pls let me know. Maybe nydiot might work?

For uBook (I love it!), you can set it to go portrait, independently of the OS itself. Go to options, look for orientation or something.

UBook is one of my favorite--beyond e-books, it is one of the faster document readers around. I sometimes have docs that are 400+ pages; Ubook is the only thing I've found that lets me explore them with any kind of speed.

I only wish for MS Word compatability; going back and forth b/w *.doc and *.rtf is a bit of a drag.

I'm sure the tireless developer will figure something out--I've never seen so many versions of the same program. The guy will not quit.
