| Hi folks .... got some news on the G138.
I enquired on the G138 with EML (the store selling G138 on eBay UK ) and a "Chris Billington" got back to me.
He says ...
Quote
... found the UK market is 'not ready' for them, so we have started to dispose of
our stock on Ebay. There is a substantial stock of G138 available in China I believe, which we have been offered. We also have a new unused G168 which we bought as a sample.
Yes, US shipping would be possible- obviously payment would have to
clear before we let them go. Unfortunately the dollar rate is not very advantageous
for you right now, but since the ship weight is only about two pounds, maybe
paying shipment on a US-dollar-based account and combining shipment for
multiple units would be worthwhile?
I'll ping him on a bulk price if we can confirm the number of potential owners we have here ... on the side note, I have sent an email to folks in China too ... but I have not heard from them yet ... we'll see ...
so, any takers? |

| hmmm 280 pounds translates to $655 CAD...
Plus shipping it's going to be a bit more. I'm in Canada btw.
... hmmmmmmm ... eee ... rrr ...
Did you bargain with the guy? As I said in my previous post, even their reserve on ebay was met after the 240 pounds bid. I'm sure they can do better than 280
Also it seems we're going around the world... these came from China, and we're buying off a UK retailer. No one else in the world wants to retail these?
And Snappy!, ygpm... |

| One thing I keep forgetting to ask... does the GSM/GPRS module work in the Americas? GSM service here is 1900 MHz, which I think is different from the Europe
Can you ask info about the G168 as well?
What does it come with? Particularly does it include the dock and/or the expansion pack?
WiFi: is it built-in or is it thru external SDIO only?
How much??
Thanks dude |

| I will check with them on the shipping and get back to you folks.
btw, Chris (EML ) just got back to me on more info:
Quote
Just a thought- if the units are supplied to a customer in the UK or in the EU, then we have to add 17.5% VAT. Exceptions are as follows:
- UK customer is VAT-registered, so can reclaim the VAT as 'input tax' from UK Customs when they are exported
- EU customer can supply us with a valid EU VAT number, in which case
we don't have to add UK VAT.
If we are exporting the units ourselves outside the EU, (on our own or the buyer's courier account) we don't have to charge VAT, since we can get a proof of export from the courier.
So, UK users may want to take note. Tak, you might be better off with shipping direct to CA instead.
Regarding the pricing, if they stick to 280GBP, it might just push people to try to get the lowest bid online instead. And they end up with more paper work vs bulk deal with us. I'll see what he says.
Those who are interested, pls PM me direct. Thank you. |

| The system is dual band not tri band. It operates at either 900MHz or 1800MHz |

| The lastest auction ended at £209 and reserve was met.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5168253625
That is way lower than 280...
BTW Snappy have you asked them about the G168A? I want to know. |

| ooh dear ... I totally missed out on that! Let me ping him on the G168A.
Yeah, maybe we should just go and get the items online through the auction ... ... I'll let them know about it ... maybe 200GBP is more like it since we will be getting a bundle off their stock.
Will let you know if they have anything on the G168A. |

| If they offer the G168A at a low enough price, I might get that instead. I know that is not an HPC, but that's another story...
(Can't get both; I'm not THAT rich lol) |

We have one G168A but I turned it into a brick trying to reflash the
firmware. One day I will have time to figure out how to revive it.
He also responded on the Lower Reserve Price thingie. I'll PM you for details. Those who wish to know more may PM me as I think its not so nice to post their reserve price out here ... |

| oh btw, Chris also mentioned that for 280pounds, we get 12mths warranty, whereas the auctions on eBay seem to be AS IS, or no DOA.
But, I'm just wondering about the cost of shipping back and forth should something break... |

| is the OS for this system similar to the OS of the latest MobilePro?
Off topic:
======
is there a handheldpc that runs the same OS as, say, iMate JAM or the bigger iMATE?
i heard that that OS can accomodate the screen size of the handheldpcs. |
