Ok, I got my 680e which you may have read about in another thread and I have it on the network. Things seem to be be going good, but. Yes, there is always a but....

I can't seem to get Imov Messenger to connect to MSN. Does this feature still work? Or is this a lost cause?

I use iMov myself and I know that MSN works for some of the servers. Note that not all servers support all the IM protocols. This may be the first thing you want to verify. Make sure the server you are connecting to supports MSN msg protocol.

Thanks Snappy, I have checked on that previously, but would you mind sharing which server yours works with?

Thanks

Well the MSN Messenger has been updated to 6.2 just yesterday. Older versions won't work.
Perhaps the servers need an upgrade?

well ... I guess we will need to wait for the jabber server to catch up on this protocol game then ...

btw, I've not quite logged on to MSN for awhile, mostly use Y! ... so ...

hi Loose Canon,

you have two alternatives until iMov is updated:

1) MS Portrait (free) - if there's one for wince 2.11. why not? check it out!

2) any irc client... see this forum: http://www.pocketpcmag.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=13376
(the last post is of interest now)

Portrait is for HPC2000 only. It will install on 2.11, but only because the installer hasn't been written correctly.

What Jabber server are you connecting to?

actually guys I got it to work finally... I decided the best thing to do was try all the servers... so I started with all the US servers first, after the Top Three which Imov suggested didn't work. Finally I found one that works flawlessly for what I want, AIM and MSN...

Thanks for all the responses.

Not all servers have been upgraded after the lockdown.

So based on information provided to me by Donna, users should try the server:
amessage.info

Glad you got it sorted.

actually C:Amie that was one of the sites I had tried, it was weird...

Imov would login, then suddenly the program would crash / close unexepectedly... so I would try again, and it would do it again. Other servers would show a weird login string of: UsernameImoveClientPassword
all jumbled together like that and it would look as if it was logged in to jabber, however I could not receive or send messages. Finally when I got down to jabber.evilrealms.net it finally worked correctly. I do not think it was just an MSN fault due to their protocol / version change, but do not know what was wrong. Oh well it works now!!!
