My educated guesses:
The USB host port was actually used for connecting FOMA cellphones, and the Sig3 has built-in software (drivers and utilities) to use these phones.
Support for other USB devices thru the same port was added later in an official patch.
You are correct. There is a cord that connects FOMA phones to the Sig3 almost all Sigs are like this.
I miss my Sony Foma phone and SIG 3 (lost it ).

| Well, thanks for all the comments.. for now I'm still pooling up the money... but I'm split between a G138 and a Sig3... both have its strengh and weaknesses... so I don't know yet... I think the CF+SD combo is a must because I need bluetooth on it... while the 7" screen seems to attract me much... |

The Sig3 is definitely getting a lot more use with me, primarily because of the form factor and the keyboard. The OS is annoying, but it's not too annoying... |

| it doesnt annoy me...
so this should not keep you away from the sig3, shriek
basically what you need to determine is whether you need great portability or not. also battery life is a question - sig3 has user replaceable batteries, smartbook battery is internal |

| It's funny, because the g138 actually seems more powerful than the sig3 because of the extra bulk. less-informed bystander would think of the g138 as a little laptop, and the sig3 as an oversized electronic organizer |

| Well me, I like the way the Jornada 728 looks and the Sig3.. I gotta admit, I do like the darker colours for an HPC (Sig3) and I love the Sliver/Blue look of the 728.. |
