Perhaps you could ask isotherm in #hpcdev on efnet.. Anyway, he has said in #hpcdev that he is still working on it, just be patient, it's alot of work to do this kind of stuff, especially to what could be a great layer for HPCs..

No one has worked the full version of Opera out yet. However, cmonex got Opera MINI to work on the Jornada and someone else, Rich maybe, confirmed it worked on CE.net 4.2.

Here's the thread:

oflash you probably misunderstood. isotherm has full opera running on hpc2000. (NOT MINI )

and yes i have the same full opera running on my 900c (i was first to get it working on the 900c but that doesn't matter it was easy to do). it does launch on cenet 4.1 too, but it will not connect to http sites due to the old version of winsock2.

i don't have it on hpc2000 because isotherm hasn't released the layer yet.

It'll be available when the compatability layer is released. And personnally IE isnt *that* bad. I found if you change the browser identification string in the registry to say version 5.5 running on winnt, that oddly alot more webpages start rendering correctly. Do not however try using 6.0 or higher in the registry hack, things get really weird if you do.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr
entVersion\Internet Settings]
"User Agent"="Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows NT 5.1; Q312461; .NET CLR 1.0.3705) "

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Cur
rentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent]
"Platform"="Windows NT 5.1"
"Version"="MSIE 5.5"
"Default"="Mozilla/4.0"
"Compatible"="compatible"
"UA-Language"="JavaScript"

If you dont want to edit the registry by hand this application will do it for you.

Cheers.

The trick works in a j720, and really improves IE use.
Unfortunately does not work in a MIPS HPCPro!!!!!

Sure. There are many sites out there to test with. As an example this link will tell you browser version and encryption strength.

Do you have the 128 bit encryption update installed on your 720 which allows you to use secure ( https ) websites?

Here's something I noticed that happens on my Jornada 720 if I DON'T change that registry entry:

Windows Mobile Live and MyMSN will not go past the login screen! I think it's hysterical that a Microsoft browser won't connect to a Microsoft site unless I "trick" the site into thinking I'm running a DIFFERENT Microsoft browser.

The limitations of the PIE browser effects some of the sites I access mostly due to Secure Site Authentication Certificate processing. If there is an error on the site certificate (or if the root certificate doesn't exist in PIE), PIE gives an error and/or just refuses to continue even with the 128bit encryption update, but NetFront will usually process it anyway with a little warning about secure content. PIE can't handle my employers site (secured for email and such), but NetFront has no problems with it. The drawback is that NetFront uses a heck of a lot more memory... So I use both, depending on my needs. I will be looking forward to trying Opera when it's ready.

I've noticed a LOT more sites using flash content (like SCIFI). I wish there was a way to process flash in some "low fidelity" way. The hacks currently available haven't worked for me. I could see that kind of project spanning beyond HPC into the more lucritive PPC realm.
