Looking for MS SQL Server CE v 1.0 or 1.1

Anyone out there have a copy? I understand that they were freely distrubuted for development, however Microsoft Support cannot find me any copies. Also, I am given tounderstand that this version supported the MIPs and HPC 2.11.

Yes you can run SQL CE 1.1 on a 2.11 device and upwards, including the PsPC.

Freely distributed for development is not the correct way to put it, because its licensing is dependent oon owning SQL 2000 Developer Edition or having CAL licenses for connectivity to a SQL2000 server. The Gray area with it is if you intent to use it completely stand-alone, in that instance you can use it without worrying. I will see if I have it in my store.

If I do I will throw it onto the developer section for you.

That looks like just the Service Pack update, not SQL Server CE 1.1 itself. I searched microsoft.com and couldn't find anything earlier than SQL Server CE 2.0.

sometimes, with Microsoft, the update or service pack is a complete reinstall of the system. Don't know if thats the issue here.

The redist installer is inside the SP update.

See C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server CE\redist\Server.

SQL CE is a series of DLL's, it isn't some front ended applciation. It will bundle into Platform Builder and make its modules available to eVT. There is no EM/QA.

Unless I misunderstand the concept of SQL CE, the 'server' is a client extension system, not a desktop application. It has desktop developer extensions and API's and integrates with IIS and real SQL Server.

You can run SQL CE stand alone on the H/PC
You cannot connect SQL Server CE to an unlicensed MS SQL 2000 Server
You can connect SQL Server CE to a per-connection MS SQL 2000 Server licensed with will SQLCE CAL right subject to the EULA terms of the connection

You need to install eVT/eVT SDK's/IIS/PB before you install SQLCE otherwise it will not integrate.
