i again tell you: jornada 720/728 has *intel* strongarm and does not have less battery life. i get around 9 hours out of my battery with normal use
...but Intel Strongarm did not exist when the J680 was designed and released in 1999 or was it earlier? I have looked over the J728 but for the money used ones go for I could have an exciting Zaurus SL-1000 ! |

but but ... me thought you like linux, open source and all, and Sharp Zaurus SL-### series is exactly that! Furthermore, a SL-C700 cost only $325 (correction to a previous post stating it to be $315 ), comes with TFT screen, CF-slot, SD-slot, 64MB ram, Qtopia desktop ... so you can do everything you wanted on a linux desktop in it, all in a HPC-like form-factor!! |

| is it possible to buy a PCMCIA card with a headphone jack on it. if you can this would enable j680 users to listen to MP3's through headphones without all the strange bodging.
if you cant buy one maybe someone could try and make one and drivers to go with it (probably would be too hard to do that but just a thought) |

| I do, but I would much rather have it on my 720 instead, maybe just for the fact of hacking the installation together myself. And I could probably do more with my 720 via a custom NetBSD installation...
Duck Man, (come on self, don't laugh...don't laugh... ) I think to make your own you would need a lot of knowledge about pcmcia and the inner workings of the Jornada...not saying that it isn't possible though (cuz ANYTHING'S POSSIBLE!!! ). As far as finding one, most likely there is a very, very slim chance that drivers are available. |

| Creative makes one. But its a CardBus unit. Saw it on their website.
BTW, I gave up on the Headphone jack. My Luck has been most unfortunate lately. Anything and everything that can go wrong does.

| Before i got my j720 and later my 728, i found a headphone jack in Radio Shack that i think it was slim enough to fit INSIDE the J. it was a 2.5 mm (for the cellphone jack type ). It could be converted to 3.5mm (std mono headphones ) via a custom cable.
I was thinking to place it in the small room between the power cord socket and the stylus, right underneath the stabilizer. maybe it would have fitted, but as i said before, i got my J720 so i never went any forward.
Hope this helps |

| Snappy,
Is there a Linux for Jornada 680/690 thread? I want to know the status of Linux for the 680 but can find no thread for it. Before I create a new Linux thread, I want to make sure the information I seek is not already here somewhere.
If you are not running Linux on your Jornada, I figure Linux for SH3 is not ready enough yet?
I figure the only way we will be able to continue with Jornadas is to migrate to Linux?

| ...and i can say for sure the psion netbook (and the series 7 ) was released in 1999 too. epoc er5 wasn't around earlier either.
but arm cpu's existed earlier, for example the psion 5mx has an ARM cpu, more precisely it is an ARM 710T. i don't think it was intel though (? )
OK, offtopic ended |
