My only thought is that the presence of the stub dlls in \windows is causing the driver to think that the machine is actually a pocket PC rather than an HPC.

Install the stub dlls in the actual installation directory of the Adobe application rather than the \windows directory and see if that helps.

Cheers,
Nick.

Alas this is a known side effect.

The reason is as chiark said, there is a api call problem.
In fact a MFC call problem.

The problem is with the new mfcce300.dll from PPC2000.
We are currently reluctant to slip the dll into the HPC2000 filing system because it involved modifying the Adobe code. It's violating the EULA.

What a shame ! I've been using Ansyr Primer for a while and it's very slow, so installed the Adobe reader and it's great, but I need the wireless in the office and Bluetooth when out and about. So I guess I'll be installing it for reading documents when I've got a few to go through then unistalling it when I've finished. Sorry to be ignorant but what is "EULA" is this a licence to do with distribution ? is there a modification I could make, but not distribute ?

If you're handy with a Hex editor then yes you can perform the modification yourself.

Open the acrord32.exe in a hex editor
find mfcce300.dll
replace it with mfcce30p.dll
save the file back
On the device in \Windows\ rename the mfcce300.dll to mfcce30p.dll
The original HPC2000 mfc file will "returun to active" and your WiFi / BT will work. Soft reset and assuming you performed the hex edit correctly, so will Acrobat.

Many thanks, Adobe working, Bluetooth working, haven't tried wireless yet, since my card is stuck in the side of my laptop at the moment.
But seems to have done the trick.

Can you tell me how to do this with KwiDDCE? It is all Japanes-ish blocky characters, so I don't know how to get to mfcce300.

Could you please explain (step by step) how to do the Acrobat 1.0 modification? When I installed the Acrobat 1.0, my wireless connection and Laridian Bible stopped working. I am not familiar with Hex editor. Where can I get the HEX editor? Is the HEX editor available on Jornada 720? Is acrord32.exe the same as acrobat 1.0? I want to thank HPC factor for making the Acrobat 1.0 possible.

Hex editing executables is a thing of the past. The program ExecutabilityCheck from Hou Ming is so much better. It lets you edit the dlls a program's imports as well as the CE OS version. By doing this, you may even be able to run some CE 4.2 PPC2003 programs on your Jornada!

Download it here: http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley-Cupertino/2039/

Hi,

I read that you succesfuly installed the Acrobat Reader on a Jornada 728 ?
Can you please explain the steps that you did to install it. I have tried several ways and always find a message that it is not the proper version despite having downloaded it from the adobe page and specificaly for this machine.
If possible can you please send your installer by email to hostmaster@makymat.com

Thank you.

maybe you should try to copy the mfcce ppc dll to the app dir (Acrobat\reader). That will activate your H/PC dll located in \windows and will also allow Adobe Acrobat reader to work

Hope this helps
