Jornada 690 Voice Recording not working

Hello,

I tried recording some bits last night with my 690 but it doesn't work. It bleeps and unbleeps when I used the record button, the memo appears in Voice Recorder but when I play it back I hear nothing except static noise.

Changing the record settings or volume does nothing

I copied the resulting PCM WAVE file to my Velo 1 and it too did not play any of my recording, just the static.

This leads me to think the 690's mic is duff, is this common and how could I perhaps fix it?

I would agree that it sounds like the mic has popped its cloggs.

The mic is solder suspended off of the motherboard, it is fairly easy to break off and in the event if an impact probably likely to grumble.
There could also be a problem in the sound system... however the only way to know for sure is to open her up and look around with a hot iron in hand.

This is what I thought might be the outcome.

I'll think about taking it apart but I might leave well alone. Considering I should have a 720 on the way soon...
