MEtal,

Be aware though that the HPC:Factor CE2.00 driver release is just a redistribution of the 3Com one without the installer demand. Hence why we released the NSP.

Hello, tank you so much for the services CD!!
I have installed the 3c589 original driver, soft reset and insert the card. The 3com icon have apperaed in the taskbar, but car didn't work. When i reinsert the card, the 3com icon never appeared again and it was like the beginning.
I made a hard reset to put all from zero, installed the 3c589 original driver, the SP1, the NSP in this order with no result. Before a lots of trys changing the order nothing new happens.
: ( well... i will stop bothering with my f....kng spanish device
Again, thank you so much for support.

Strange. Based on previous feedback on the 3C589D. I would guess that the issue may be with the cards configuration, rather than CE.
Unless there is a hardware problem in the device.
As to what exactly, you could try resetting the EPROM using the DOS utility in the 3Com drivers.

Other than that, I'm afraid I'm at a loss.

As for the image. It's from the game Command & Conquer Red Alert.
It's not meant to offend.

I've been away for quite awhile and have probably missed a lot of back and forthing re 3com 3c589 cards.
Mine works like a champ. Never a problem that cannot be traced to my own mistakes.
BUT
the driver leaves a key behind in the registry detect section. After awhile the registry section gets full and the network card won't load. I delete the 3c589 entries in the registry and everything works fine.
I asked about this once before, and I apologize for missing the thread (if there was one? Dazed and confused is my normal state these days) but if any of you have found a way around the registry filling up, I'd love to know how.
TIA

SFT

STF, In one of the threads in the OS Specific support section I posted drivers with a fix for that. Was in the Pro section if I recall correctly.
You should give them a try.

It seems that Jornada 600 series users are having the problems. I cannot pin point what is happening, but there are 600 series users out there that have it working under Pro.

I would really appreciate it if any Pro user - any device and CPU. Could go into the 3C589x thread in HPC Pro support and enter down any information they can obtain from the back plate and front sticker of the Card, as well as any patches they have on the device, which dongle they are using and what network mode they use.

Thanks.

Hey there
I am fairly certain I've got the latest driver from HPC.
And, as I said, everything works great. except for that blasted registry fill up.
I went to the help page
Installing the 3Com 3C589x under H/PC Pro
CESD-H-0008
and think what's there I've done. what am I missing?

here's the scoop on the 3com card I'm using:
on the top side
"EtherLink III LAN PC card
for 10Base-t and Coax
3C589D
this side up"

on the reverse:
"PCMCIA 2.1/2.1 and the PC Card Standard, made in Ireland"
then a bunch of stuff about FCC compliance.
above and below the UPC are these numbers:
(above) EA=0060082257309
(below) SN: 6KJ2257309
PN: 16-0037-000 REV: B

My dongle has an RJ 45 male at one end and a single flat connected at the other, which fits into its respective port on the card. The male connector on the cord is approx. 1.5 cm wide; its port is centered on the end of the card.

enough detail?

I guess it would be helpful for you to know I'm using a Jornada 820 which, apart from having to reboot every time I go on the network (or off to stop the screen lockup) works quite well.
I read some of the messages about having to reboot: I have to at least 2x a day and figure it's just part of the cost of doing business with an 820.

Spot on with the info, just what the Dr. ordered.

... but I did say in the HPC Pro thread.
http://www.hpcfactor.com/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=16&posts=13

The fixed drivers are about half way down in my post.

Ok. here's the latest on my Jornada 820 and 3c589
I downloaded the instructions and 3com utility for returning the 3com card to default using a laptop with pcmcia port.
all went well.
I removd and then reinstalled the 3c589 drivers using the HPC pro driver from hpc:factor. It worked, with some tweaking, and, while networking works (i.e. I can read the hard drive on the desktop pc) syncing doesn't work. but that's a sync problem, not a 3com problem...
BUT
the registry shows the same old additional 3c589 entries with each entry onto the network. After 30 or log ons, I have to delete all the entries in the registry, as before.

what causes that registry backlog? again something I'll just learn to live with?
I'm grateful for your work on this and for your patience with folks like me...

So: is that what I'll have to live with?

The Sync problems can be fixed by going through the networking guides in support.

As to the driver, that build fixed the driver registration problem on my devices.
Clearly you are suffering from a severe case of dll unload fatigue. At this time I do not know what to suggest.

You're on target with the network sync fix.
I went back to the page you-all have and checked everything.
One setting dropped out, how, I don't know.
set it back in and voila.

I've lived with the 3c589 idiosyncracies and am willling to pay that price for the ease of networking.
Pain, yes. LIttle in life isn't...

I'm very grateful for the entire site; thanks for putting in the time to keep it alive.
