Hi there,

is there a HPC professional device that runs on AA Batteries? I work in the archaeolgical field and sometimes have trouble getting to a power outlet for longer periods of time. I don't really need a color screen...

Thanks
Herbert

hum, I do not know of any off the top of my head which run primarily on Dry Cells, unlike with 2.00.
However the IBM Workpad z50 is a VGA device and does has a dry cell battery pack option, which you can get off of eBay as part of the extended battery kit for the device.

My Flashback review of the z50 goes into this:

While the NEC Mobilepros primarily run off their included Li-ion pack
they have a AA battery option. An auxiliary battery "shell" is available that takes 6 AAs to drive the MP in the field.

The packs are all over eBay for about $20. They'll fit the MP 770 and 780 (HPC Pro) or 790 (HPC 2000).

There are only 2 options right off the top of my head, one much better than the other of chance...but here they go, there is a casio pentablet like device with 2.11 wich runs on AA's its the Casio PA-2400 i think wich is greyscale then the only other option and rare as gold is the Sharp mobilon 4100 wich had a 2.11 upgrade avalible for it for a limited time, wich you might find one of those on ebay upgraded, its also greyscale & takes 2 AA's.....Steve

there IS at least one make that can directly use li-ion or AA batter: JVC (victor) mp-c102.

In the power settings, the user can select directly the power type: AA batter or LI-ion.

But i suppose this product was never released or sold overseas. It is limited to Japan only

btw, it is a 65536-color HPC Pro 640*480 7.2-in LCD.

quite a good HPC Pro for hardware specifications: 32Ram CF+PC Card SLot plus USB + IR.

It weights 735g.
