| That's a cardbus card. The Jornada doesn't support cardbus. If you want a good wireless card, pick up a used Orinoco card on ebay or similier. It's pretty well the best card you can get. |

| There's a huge list of compatible cards in this site's Hardware Compatibility List:

| The 3com card from Isotherm is fantastic (really good signal, very stable and superb retractable aerial)...
I would say for the incredablly cheap price (and super quick delivery I got to the UK) it would defo be top of my list unless you wanted to use it for Wi-fi scanning then it's not suitable....
Check for sale section for link to Isotherms 3com cards

| The Orinoco card will work on a 680 with no problems. I'm certain of this, as I've personally done it. It also has a rather nice interface that lets you see all the access points in range and signal strength and such.
(They also work under pretty well every version of windows, linux, BSD, MacOS, the Newton OS, EPOC, etc etc etc. It's the closest thing to an industry standard wifi card ever built.)
There have been newer cards sold under the Orinoco name though, so watch out. You want an Orinoco Turbo Gold, Silver or Bronze. They've been rebranded by Everyone, but the card is mostly the same inside.
I can get the cards used for $25 canadian, if you can't find one. |

I want to try an Orinoco card, (have given up on the intel card ), but I cannot find the "Orinico turbo" which is recommended in previous postings.....On ebay there are Proxim cards. e.g. "Proxim Orinoco Gold 802.11b/g Wireless PC Card 8470-FC". Will that work, does anyone know? tia, Clare |

I really appreciate all the help I get here.....hope someone can help me with this.......I got the card that was suggested above, and I am very close to getting connected; here is what I get on the "pop up":
"Client: Ready
Network: connection - excellent
BS: 00-00-00-04-1c
Channel 10
Encryption: no encryption"
But I cannot connect..................haven't been asked to put in the password for my router, and also the ip address isn't being entered automatically..............(and I did not receive any instructions with the card).................do I need to enter the ip address manually?...........is there a link somewhere with specific instructions? tia, Clare |

| I'm replying to my own question here;
I got "excellent connection", when I changed linksys router setting from wpa to wep...........*however* cannot get to the internet, I think, because there does not seem to any place on the jornada, where I can enter my wireless network key, (passphrase ).
I think that is the only problem now. Does anyone know how I can enter my network key?
Hope to get some help................tia.................Clare

| Go into the Agere Client and open "Edit Wireless Profiles." Select the profile you're currently using on the 680, and tap "Edit." Then navigate to the Encryption page to enable encryption and enter the key. |

Thx for your response; here is what I see when I change to WEP: (on my main computer )
Default transmit key 1
WEP Encryption: 64 bits 10 hex digits
passphrase (8 alph letters i have chosen )
key 1 DCD1116D7
key 2 277D18235A
key 3 DF3D0D607
key 4 3EE6F2FDD
Then when I do what is suggested above, I get to "settings" on the jornada, and i "enable data security", and then there are a bunch of *********** in key 1, (nothing in key2,3,4 ) and there does not seem any place where I can enter my passphrase. also, "use Alphanumeric Characters" is checked.
I'm told i have an "excellent connection", and yet i cannot get the internet.
Can you please tell me what i am doing wrong?

| Don't use passphrase. Use hexdecimal key instead. |

Thx so much for your response.
When I click on hexadecimal, the jornada sets itself right back to alphanumeric. I cannot get it to "accept" hexadecimal.
Is there anything else I can be doing, before I give up completely :- (
