1337 is a number which is important to the so called "Youth hacker" fraternity. 1337 in Hacker apparently means LEET which by a process of translation means Elite.
The tag reads "You Are The Handheld PC Elite - 1337 Posts"
It is something of a tech forum tradition to include it for no reason other than to mock anyone who understands what it means (there by now classing myself as knowing what it means and thus mocking myself for falling into the trap in the first place)

So does that mean that a user with 17 posts is a "LiTe" (var. of LighT) poster? ;+) I kept seeing this reference and had no idea what people were so excited about as they approached 1337. I did a forum search, found this thread, so now I'm more knowledgeable, albeit mockable now, too.
