I'm pretty sure the answer to my question is "it can't be done", so my
followup question will be "then how does everyone else manage this?"

Now, for the issue:
I'm going to be doing quite a bit of travelling this year, making my J720
quite useful. With more and more hotels offering free high speed internet
access, I should be able to utilize this instead of dialup internet when I'm
on the road. Since I have a DSL Router/Switch at home that I use for high
speed internet and LAN, so I already have home network settings on my HPC.
Is there a way to create multiple connection settings that you can select,
similar to the multiple RAS (Dialup) settings that can be created?

This would be a lot handier than manually changing network settings
everytime you change environments.

Thanks,
Kenny Anderson

The DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) should automatically detect the network settings and create the IP address for each network you connect to.

Wow, that is something of a big ask, seeing that they only added similar functionality to mainstream Windows in XP.
The only way I know how to do it would A) require a lot of registry modding to begin with, and B) require a trip back to the registry to swap over the connection (and probably a step C for a soft reset)

C:Amie, were you talking to me?
My suggestion was for unsecured hotspots. My card automatically connects through the DHCP.

As a matter of fact I vaguely remember seeing a WinCE software for something like that.

Try looking for it in Handheld Attitude and HPCNEC. I will try to look for it later tonight...

If you have an orinoco silver/gold card, the profile tool in the control panel will do that for you. it'll let you select the wep key and SSID settings. but the IP, DNS, and WINS addresses are not changed, they must be manually changed in network applet in control panel. If you use DHCP then everything should be automatically changed when you change profiles.

It'll work using either the orinoco driver from proxim or the avaya wireless driver

Hope this helps

I know I only have a newbie listing, but the best solution I've come across is "HPC NetProfiler".

It allows saves multiple settings and allows you to apply different settings to different NIC's. I have profiles setup for my wired NIC and my wireless NIC and then different settings for each for home, work, and Wdriving.

There is a demo out there that you can give a try.

It's still available out there, but Phatware has removed it from their site.

It looks like it's under $20 (US).

you can still download it directly from phatware (and much more hpc software): ftp.phatware.com
