xunker 05 May 2023 at 11:46:51 PM I purchased this card new in (1998-1999) for my Compaq C120, and use it in a MobilePro 450 (both CE 1.0). Some USB CF readers seem to have trouble mounting the card sometimes. Plugging the card in to the reader before plugging the reader in to the computer seems to help.Since this card is too small to use modern benchmark software, here are some numbers using `dd` along with comparable cards for context. The write command is `dd if=/dev/random of=/dev/rdisk4 count=8192`, and the read command is `dd if=/dev/rdisk4 of=/dev/null`. Test system is MacOS 12.6 (M1 Pro) with a "Genesys Logic" USB2.0 CF reader: 8MB PNY VersaCard P-CF008-PA Read: 591 KB/sec Write: 219 KB/sec Lexar 8MB 4x-rated "USB Enabled" (no model number, 2000 model) Read: 882 KB/sec Write: 559 KB/sec 32MB Cisco (CCF032JCVS6MC01H) Read: 832 KB/sec Write: 811 KB/sec As you can see, the write speed is VERY low. The read speed is better, but still lower than contemporaries. Still, something has to be said for reliability: I have owned and used this card for almost 25 years and it's still chugging along. I've used it in Windows/Mac laptops, MessagePad 2000/eMate 300, and even a Nikon camera with no trouble. You must be signed-in to post comments in the SCL. Not registered? Join our community.
