Overview:PocketJet II Driver
To install the PocketJet II printer driver to a single HPC (or if installing to a different HPC that is running a DIFFERENT version of the Windows CE operating system):
(Note: The acronym "HPC" is an acronym for "Handheld Personal Computer". This refers to your Windows CE device.)
To install the PocketJet II printer driver to a single HPC: 1. Make sure the Windows CE Services are installed on your PC. See your HPC User's Guide for instructions. 2. Connect the desktop PC to the HPC using the serial (synchronization) cable and instructions provided with your HPC. 3. Place the PocketJet II Installation diskette into drive A: 4. Select "Start: Run" and enter "a:\wince\PJ2setup.exe." 5. Follow the on-screen instructions Note: It is VERY important that you select the correct version of Windows CE, either CE2.0 or CE2.1 during the installation process. Refer to onscreen instructions for how to determine this if you do not know.
To install the PocketJet II printer driver to more than one HPC or on another HPC at a later time (if subsequent HPC's have the SAME version of the Windows CE operating system): 1. Follow the instructions above to install the drivers for a single HPC. This will place the driver files on your PC's hard drive during the installation process. 2. Connect your PC to the second HPC using the serial (synchronization) cable. 3. Click on the Mobile Devices icon and, from the Tools menu, select the Application Manager. This will display a list of software that you can install on your HPC (unchecked) and that is already installed on your HPC (checked [white if installed from this PC, gray if installed from another PC or if it does not use Application Manager]). 4. Check the drivers you want to install on the new HPC and select OK. 5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 as necessary.
To install the PocketJet II printer driver to more than one HPC or on another HPC at a later time (if subsequent HPC's have a DIFFERENT version of the Windows CE operating system): 1. Follow the steps above for installing to a single HPC.
To Uninstall:
Method 1 - If your HPC is connected to a desktop PC: 1. On your desktop PC, double click the Mobile Devices icon on the PC desktop. 2. Under the Tools Menu, select Application Manager. 3. To uninstall the printer driver only from the HPC and not from your PC, uncheck the driver(s) you want to remove and select "OK" - OR - To uninstall the printer driver from both the HPC and the PC: Highlight the driver(s) you want to remove and select "Remove..."
Method 2 - If your HPC is NOT connected to a desktop PC: (This will remove the driver from your HPC only.) 1. On your HPC, select "Start:Settings:Control Panel" and double tap the "Remove Programs" icon on the HPC. 2. Highlight the driver that you want to remove and tap "Remove."
VERSION 1.1 NOTES: ------------------ A change was made to fix a problem with the Vadem Clio. Also, a minor problem existed with the small ICON.
VERSION 1.2 NOTES: ------------------ Changes include:
1. Fixed Control Panel applet for WinCE 3.0 devices such as HP Jornada 720.
2. Added a Port Buffer Size control
· To allow optimization of the driver for the cable which is used (e.g. Serial, Irda, USB), since some of the cables are capable of accepting more data at a time than others.
· To allow users with the Serial cable to optimize the particular device being used to work properly. Many CE devices either do not support the Hardware Handshaking mechanism, or have problems with Software Handshaking due to errors in the device’s serial port driver. Allowing you to reduce the port buffer size used by the printer driver allows you to get around these errors in the device manufacturer’s port driver.
3. Added USB support. However, this is only available in a special build of the driver, since most WinCE devices do not have a USB port. If you are interested in obtaining the USB version of the driver, please contact technical support.
************************************************************** II. Accessing PocketJet II Custom Features ************************************************************** 1. Pentax PocketJet II custom features include Density (0-10) and 3 Form Feed modes ("No Feed", "Fixed Page", and "End of Page"). Refer to the manual or on-line Help file for more information.
2. In Windows CE:
a. Additional Custom Features in WinCE Driver The WinCE driver has two additional custom features: Serial Handshake and Port Buffer Size.
The "Serial Handshake" control specifies the "flow control" as either Software or Hardware. This applies ONLY if you are using the serial cable.
The "Port Buffer Size" control specifies how many bytes are written to the port at a time. This was implemented due to extreme differences in behavior from one CE device to another, and also since each of our optional cables (Serial, Irda, USB) has different capabilities. In general, you can leave it at the default of 128. Increasing the value may speed up printing a little. Decreasing it can slow down print speed, but it can also make the printing more reliable. We recommend changing this only in the event you have a problem.
b. Custom features can be accessed in two ways: responding to the "print-time" dialog that shows up for every print job, or using the "PJII" Control Panel applet that is accessed via "Start:Settings:Control Panel" and then double-tapping the "PJII" icon.
c. On each, the default choice of "Show this dialog at print time" will be enabled. At print time, this dialog will come up after you select the PocketJet II print driver from the main print dialog and select OK. If you "uncheck" the "Show this dialog at print time" box, then the same settings you last used will be used for all future print jobs until changed in the Control Panel. Once you disable showing the print-time dialog, you must use the Control Panel to change settings or to re-enable showing the dialog at print-time.
************************************************************** III. Interface Options ************************************************************** 1. Parallel cable: This cable is the standard cable provided in the PocketJet II kit. Use this cable with desktop or laptop PC's running Windows 3.x, 9x, NT, or 2K.
2. 6" PDA serial cable: Optional cable for use with Windows CE, Palm, Psion, and RIM devices. This cable actually converts serial data to parallel. It is intended to connect to your PDA's "Synchronization" cable or cradle.
It requires the following settings: "baud rate" is 57600, "Data Bits" is 8, "Stop Bits" is 1, "Parity" is None, and flow control is either XON/XOFF (software) or RTS/CTS (Hardware).
3. 4 ft PC serial cable: Optional cable for use with Desktop or Laptop PC's via the serial port.
The settings are generally the same as for the PDA serial cable above. Depending on the version of the cable, it may or may not support hardware (RTS/CTS) flow control. But, XON/XOFF is supported in all versions.
4. Irda cable: Optional cable for use with Windows CE, Palm, and Psion devices. This cable actually converts infrared data to parallel.
It requires a "baud rate" of 115200.
5. USB cable: This cable is available as an option for use with desktop or laptop PC's running Windows 98, Me, or 2K. It also works with some WinCE devices which have USB ports, but this requires a different driver than is standardly distributed. Contact Tech Support to obtain this driver if needed.
************************************************************** IV. PocketPC ************************************************************** The driver supplied here does NOT work on the PocketPC. The PocketPC devices do NOT support the same printer driver architecture as is supported in the HPC class WinCE devices.
To print from a PocketPC, you need to use the apps provided by Field Software, which are located on our website, as well as at www.fieldsoftware.com. System Requirements:Windows CE 2.0 - 2.11 Download:File | Architecture | Size | |
