Trying to get printing to work on my 900c. When selecting what port to use, I get no lpt1 port to choose. I get irda, com1, and Com5 as physical port choices. Is there a way to fix this?

Have tried jetcet program for printing to hp printer via usb with no success. when usb connected, it asks for driver, which i dont have.

Printer is an hp photosmart 4480

The Photosmart 4480 is a PCL3 printer...the pcl driver in the Westek drivers or actually the default PCL printer selection should work. Did you try selecting the PCL driver?

The device physically doesn't have a parallel port, so no, you cannot connect a Line Print device to it.

I think the problem is with the actual connecting. Cant print directly (usb connection wont work without driver, evidently) so I try printing through my desktop as a printer share. That wont work without an ipp server service, and i cant find an ipp service software that works with winxp.

Did you follow Rich's advice on the Westek PCL driver?

Yes, tried the pcl3 driver - the connection just times out. Is this supposed to work as a usb connection or as a network connection? neither seems to work for me.

I will see if I can find reg settings I imported - not sure it needs it though think maybe just point the 900C to USBPRN as the driver (should already be in the 900c) and should work with HP's printers

Curious....what OS version are you trying print with...standard CE.NET or Cmonex or what? Did you configure the printer through the control panel?

And did you use the Westek printer driver set from the 900C bonus disk, or did you use the Westek printer driver set from the 900 bonus disk...because they do behave differently.

tried both (from cmonex's site) - had no success with either one.

Here is the process I go through after installing the westek driver (I have the 900c version installed now):

plug in usb from printer to master usb port.

- 900c asks for driver for usb device.

then ???

I know this is probably a no-brainer, I just dont happen to have my brain running right now.

you tried typing in the name of the westek driver (without the extension) or typing in USBPRN...

May simply be a printer incompatibility issue...do you have any other printers to try?
