I recently visited the software downloads section of the HP website for J 720. I downloaded an update for Internet Explorer called msxmleng.cab, copied to the computer via active sync and opened the file. I received an error message "is not a valid Windows CE Services Setup file". The same thing happened when I copied to my storage card.

This was surprising seeing as it had come from the HP site. How I can install the update ?

Sounds like you've gotten a corrupted cab somewhere along the line. Either the download never completed or some obscure copy error along the ActiveSync line.

Either way, give the download another try:
Jornada 700 Series XML Update

If that still fails to fix it, then you probably have an upset CabInstaller on the 720.

Thanks for your thoughts c: amie. I have tried this particular download before with the same result. I tried it again as suggested. Same problem.

Could you advise if there is a way to repair my CabInstaller?

Thanks

hm, i downloaded it now and it works on my jornada 720.
maybe some crappy firewall gets in the way... (i could name a particular one ...)
check if the downloaded file is this exact size: 604165 bytes
if that's ok, then it's really a corrupt cabinstaller.. (hard reset?)
