| Hello, everyone. Should the Acrobat Reader 2.0 CAB file available on this site install and work without tweaking on a J720? I installed it to my CF card and got an "illegal instruction reference" type error.
As an aside, I had AcroReader 1.0 running just fine from the CF card for ages. I saw the 2.0 version and decided to jump in. It's been so long since I installed 1.0 that I can't remember if I used your CAB or rigged the PPC version to work.
Just for grins, I now tried to install your 1.0 CAB, and got the same error. I'm guessing that I must've rigged the PPC version to work on my machine before, if that helps anyone.
Thanks,
Paul

| it should.. at least the version C:Amie sent to me earlier. i'm sure it's no different to the redistributed one.
my guess is that you already have mfcce300 loaded in ram. for example, do you use any kind of drivers? or you just had a native hpc2000 app already opened and running that calls mfcce.
oh sorry i see now you had 1.0 running fine. then maybe it's the second case (so no drivers ).. or the redistribution install got corrupted..
i'll put a hexedited (for mfcce ) version of acrobat reader 2.0 on my site soon, maybe that will work (it really should! ). |

| or did you say NO when the install wanted to overwrite mfcce? you did the right thing but you should then place mfcce (the ppc version of course) in the acrobat reader folder.. |

| Try the link below, this might provide you with the answer to your problem

You will need a Registry editor to do that.

| Thank you, all, for your help. I hadn't installed anything new recently, no. Actually, I said "yes" to overwriting MFCCE, thinking that was the right thing to do.
I'll give the new file a go.
Again, my thanks to all!

| Yep, your promise was correct. I guess I shouldn't have overwritten the MFCCE file when asked to. Oh well...
I copied your MFCCE and ACROREAD over, and it works great now.
Kindest regards,
Paul |

| The v2 redist doesn't copy lib files into \windows, so with regard to 2.0, I don't nderstand your problem.
You may have had the wrong mfc lib in \windows from the 1.0 redist, if you uninstalled it while it was in use. You should delete the mfcce30.dll from \windows if that is the case. |

| i'm pleased to hear it worked!
it's so unfortunate that hpcfactor can't host this file as it's hexedited |

| There is nothing wrong with the hpcfactor file. It installed perfectly OK on my CF-card in my J720, once I removed the Adobe Acrobat 1.0 entry data in the registry.

| A small question about Adobe 2.0 vs. 1.0. Even though I've made the proper file associations (using Small Tweaks to match *.pdf to Adobe 2.0), when I click on a PDF file, it loads Adobe, but then gives the error "There was an error opening this file. The file does not exist."
Adobe 2.0 then takes me to \Storage Card2\Adobe\Acrobat 2.0\Reader. I've simply stored my PDF files there, and choose accordingly.
But the file association always worked with 1.0. Any idea why it doesn't here?

| Jake, if you're using my redist on the site, it self registers all that. You can just install the cab onto a storage card. |

| Hi, Chris,
No, the installation went fine. Adobe 2.0 works on my storage card. But when you click on a PDF, that's when the error comes up. As I said, it's no big deal--I'm just confused why 1.0 could automatically open a PDF and 2.0 loads only itself and then throws up an error about the actual file at hand.
When I click on Adobe 2.0 itself, it loads and works fine.
Jake
(I am using the HPC retristribution)
