Dear All,
I hope to create something useful for all the newbie
(like me
) who has just discovered the HP Jornada 720 in 2021.
Disclaimer: i am just a beginner. This is intended to be just a summary of what I found on this forum. It’s not definitive!
Considering long time has passed after the last threats on this forum, I try to summarise the main goals I was able to accomplish on my Jornada!
Thanks to this forum and all its community!
ActiveSync
In order to overpass the 678 error, I follow the Moises guide, you can find here on the forum.
For your convenience, i repost it here
(thanks Moises
).

Here's what i did.
1) I made sure no pins were in the stuck down position.
2) over time pins accumulate residue from polluted air i.e smoke, breath, moisture, etc, so take a cotton swab dipped in a little alcohol and clean around and inbetwwen those gold pins.
3) uninstall all versions of activesync !
4) make sure the 720 ain't connected to the pc.
5) install activesync
6) when the dialog box opens asking to get connected close it
7) install the same version of activesync again WITHOUT UNINSTALLING the one you just installed, in other words you'll have TWO ACTIVESYNCS installed on your pc.
8) click get connected AND AT THE SAME TIME plug the usb cable into the dock and PRESTO! YOU SHOULD ATTAIN A MUCH DESERVED PARTNERSHIP!!”
I am using a PC with Microsoft XP sp3, USB connection.
In addiction, on the settings tab on active sync, i just allow the connection via USB
(no COM no Ethernet connection allowed
).
Furthermore, on the HP Jornada i used the app remote networking
(start - programs - communication - remote networking
) and there i created a connection via USB.
GPRS Connection
I bought a Nokia D211 card WLAN/GPRS.
After several essays, I was able to let her connect via GPRS, not yet via WLAN, even if I created a password free hotspot, for testing purposes.
It is very easy to create a GPRS connection.
POP3, SMTP features can be downloaded easily by your carrier.
Just follow the guide here attached:

“
Try this version of npopuk for the J720, with built-in ssl's: npopuk301ssl_wce30arm.zip
Found at: https://npopuk.org.uk/3.01/downloads.html
Jake
Edit: I just tried to go into my google account through my J720/npopuk301 and was rejected. Had enable "less secure devices" in on-line gmail settings--that will be your judgment call.
When setting gmail, use their pop settings, tick SSL and in "setup" and "set ssl," use "auto" and untick "verify the server certificates."”
You can get the from npopuk, the settings for the main mail providers
(as Gmail or Hotmail
).
To have the program downloading since the most recent email, refer to the post of koenigssohn

Hereby copied for your convenience
“ When Npopuk starts to download from the gmail server it began with the oldest mails from 2011. I found on the npopuk homepage the info to add "recent:" in front of my mailadress in the pop configuration window. So now it starts to download the newest mails.”
Thanks!
More to come!
