I was curious how you guys got Doom to run on your Windows CE 2.11 unit. I downloaded all the files and put them on my 680e but the Doom files are .exe files and wont load. Is there some unusual way you need to install it ? I have the .wad file i need. I downloaded all of it off here. But i cant figure out how to get it to work, i know itll run on this machine. I just dont remember how to install it or if i need to install it using Active Sync ?

But any help would rock :-)

A step by step would be nice. I think i remember there was a trick to installing it correctly and getting it to run.... ? I cant remember its been 20 years since i played Doom. Id love to get it working on my 680e or my 690 or both ;-)

As I recall, no .wad files are included in the SCL for HPC:Factor for Doom, you'll have to supply those yourself - be it trial or the full version.

Also, which Doom version are you using from the SCL? We have several

each version is different to give you instructions that's why I asked which one

https://www.hpcfactor.com/scl/search.asp?freetext=doom&title=true&tag=true&developer=true

1-which version are you using
2-did you copy over the .wad files from the trial or your full version?

A few things:

1-try this older version instead. it seems to be more widely "tested"
2-people had issues with out of memory for the jornada 680, so make sure that:
I got the game to load to title screen, but only the top row of pixels actually does anything.
Quote
Guess my iTronix T5200 (MIPS) just isn't up to the task.

Used my ARM PocketPCs to help get to the bottom of the troubles people are having, but there was a scary-looking crash after I got the WAD to load in. Likely because of a GAPI conflict, because I was using PocketPC. (I don't have an ARM H/PC. :<
Here's what I learned:

"Low Memory"?
Try moving the game to your storage card, and adjusting your Program/Storage memory slider way over towards "Program".

"Can't Find iwad"?
The Readme document included with the game warns that you MUST put the iwad in an "HPC Doom" subfolder.
For example, if you put the game on your storage card, put the wad file in "\Storage Card\HPC Doom\DOOM.WAD" (or relevant filename).
Said readme has a lot more information about how to handle your WAD file, for example how to load custom WADs or versions other than the original, than I can relate in a comment. Do look into it if you're still having problems.

and see if that helps

OK i made up 3 folders of 3 different versions. Along with ALL the wad files etc i might need. All three i downloaded were SH-3 and it mentioned they were compatible. Ill mess with it tomorrow. I also couldnt get Tank Zone to work either.

I cant wait to just get that XP laptops AC adaptor im waiting on, so i can use Active Sync to do this stuff. Right now i gotta unscrew the bottom of my 680e to get to the CF slot. So its a pain in the ass. I dont want to keep unscrewing the bottom just to get to the CF slot which has my SD card (SD to CF). Once i have this laptop working and can use Active Sync, i will be happy as a clam.

Also how much program memory do you or have you guys used in the past for this to run ? Right now i have 4mb for storage (seeing im using a 1gb memory card) and 12mb for program memory. The older versions mention running on the 680 on up, so if thats the case i cant imagine any lack of ram going on with getting the program to open. Or id imagine so.

Also here’s the older version I mentioned in the earlier post but forgot to post the link
https://www.hpcfactor.com/scl/1035/Gamefreaks/Doom/version_0.92

And then these two versions if you don’t have luck.
The versions listed below are “older” ports so they may be lighter in load and memory on the jornada 6xx

Okay, I did more digging and found out the following:
1-that version 0.95 you were trying was actually a PocketPC version called gfDoom. I fixed the SCL listing to clarify this point. So that will most likely not work on your device at all.
2-I managed to locate a new Doom port for the SCL called Doom Legacy, but only an ARM processor version I could find, no SH3
https://www.hpcfactor.com/scl/2272/Gamefreaks/Doom_Legacy

So basically I'd focus on :
https://www.hpcfactor.com/scl/1035/Gamefreaks/Doom/version_0.92
https://www.hpcfactor.com/scl/1720/Hayes_Haugen/Doom_-_RevolutionCX
https://www.hpcfactor.com/scl/1138/Bruce_Lewis/DoomCE/version_0.1

As i said in a previous post, ive made up 3 different folders of 3 different versions to try out. Im gonna try those once i get my XP laptop up and running the AC Adaptor for the laptop should be here by Sat. So ill update my post once i do that and can hook the 680e up to computer using Active Sync. I dont want to keep unscrewing the bottom of this PDA to get access to my SD card (SD to CF adaptor).

Thank you everyone for ALL the help, greatly appreciated.

Nono I realize that, I wasn't rushing you. All I was trying to say is the first initial version you tried will NOT work on your device. It was for the newer PocketPCs
I edited the listing to show this.

Yeah I took that version 0.95 down because I think it’s only for PocketPCs not Handheld PCs..
