Hi everyone. New forum member here. I just purchased an Itronix 5200 with Windows CE 3.0 on it.
It came with no documentation whatsoever, but the seller did include a serial cable. (null modem)
1)I am trying to syncronize through that using Com 1. The cable is detected by the PC and the COM port is available but Activesync cannot find the device. I have tried various versions to no avail. On the HPC I set up for PC Link via Serial Cable. When I try to run Activesync from the HPC it says no partnershiop has been established. I thought it was supposed to let me configure. How do I set up said partnership?
1.5)Using a PCMCIA card I was able to connect to the internet through my router/DSL modem. Is there a way I could syncronize through the Ethernet connection
2)the HPC has wireless capabilities, but, not being able to find much information on it, I don't know if it can conenct to my modem wirelessly such that I don't need to use the PCMCIA card which is cablebound.

This device is circa 2000 vintage so a lot of things might be different from current generation HPC.

Wee, the 5200 doesn't run Windows CE 3 my friend. It's a 2.11 device.

Please ensure that you are using ActiveSync 3.8, and not 4.1. 4.1 is incompatible with 2.11.

When initiating a connection from the device, setup the connection method in the control panel > communications applet - http://www.hpcfactor.com/support/cesd/c/0025.asp
Then run PC Link - http://www.hpcfactor.com/support/cesd/s/0008.asp

ActiveSync on the device is for pre-partnered connections - http://www.hpcfactor.com/support/cesd/s/0007.asp

1.5) LAN Sync - http://www.hpcfactor.com/support/cesd/c/0012.asp

2) I had a quick skim of the info on the device. From what I can gather the optional wireless connectivity was cellular rather than a LAN mode. If you want to connect to the modem by dialing in, then yes you can do that so long as you setup your Windows PC to accept incoming connections over TCP/IP. It will be slow though. If you were thinking more in terms of Wireless Networking (WiFi) the HCL on this site is the place to have for ideas on compatible cards.

There is no such thing as Windows CE 3.01. There is a Handheld PC Professional 3.01, which is the third generation and a service pack version of the Handheld PC. It is written on-top of Windows CE 2.11.

This should go part of the way towards helping you to get your head around the CE/HPC relationship:

I see. Well I have been trying with activesync 3.7 and 3.8 and I think I followed all the steps in the links you provided.
Is it possible that I did some damage to my software on the desktop computer (removing RAS) when I tried to follow the instructions on this site for connecting my CE 1.0 Casio A11 to my Win XP PC?

I must be doing something wrong...is there anything I need to do to my computer besides installing activesync?
how does the PC know how to set-up a partnership through PC Link?
thanks

I also tried to syncronize through infrared and it didn't work. My PC has an onboard infrared port.

OK I got it!
A simple soft reset was enough. The reset was done by holding the power button down.
