Well, the open source TCPMP project may not be dead after all...

A guy from Hong Kong called t2k269 has successfully coded a brand new codec in order to play FLV Flash Videos downloaded from the web (like Youtube, Dailymotion,etc...).
This plugin was meant for PocketPCs but it does work very well on HPCs too...
So I updated my HPC Media Player with this new feature.
Warning: the Flash Video Plugin included in my package is intended for newer XScale and Arm compatible devices with good video performance ( preferably XScale 400 Mhz, and a good screen). Many FLV videos available on the web are encoded with a high bitrate (600-700 KB/sec). So if your device can’t handle that, it is still recommended to convert your FLV file on your desktop PC first. For example, my Mio268 handles all Youtube files beautifully, but videos are often choppy on my NEC Mobilepro 900c, which has a poor video performance.
You can download it here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/33664060/HPC_Media_Player_1.05b.zip.html
Cmonex, please upload it to your server, thanks.

CHANGES between 1.05 and 1.05b versions:
-Windows Media 9 plugins are no longer installed by default. You don’t need to install them if you have CE 4.20 (or higher) and if Windows Media Player is already installed in the ROM of your device. If not, copy the supplied Dlls manually to your installation folder.
-New t2k269 Flash video plugin added (FLV videos). See:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=196939
-ATI accelerator added for Sigmarion 3

Xscale/ARM only: no updated MIPS version, sorry...

So would you recommend this version for use on a J728?

I think that most FLV files will be choppy on a Jornada. I had to slightly overclock my NEC 900c to play FLV files downloaded from the web correctly.
But you can try it by yourself: there is no risk...

Disaster!

I installed the player (via HPC+Media+Player+1.05.rar ) - onto my ROM-upgraded 900c.

Then tried playing a .mpg movie (off a CF card).

It played for a couple of seconds, video & sound, then for a second or two the screen was blank & just the audio played. Then seized up completely. ie: as if switched off, blank screen. I tried the Power key, several times. Each time the 900C's opening screen (with my name and address) would come on - for a second only - then go blank again. I tried several soft resets, same result.

Then removed both batteries; then reinserted them.

From then on, pressing the Power button, nothing. The unit is a brick - apart from the green 'power-on' light being on.

Help! Maybe I've missed something in a thread saying this version of the media player must not be installed with the upgraded ROM?

Do not panic. This is a very well known bug of the 900c;

Remove your batteries during several hours (12 or 24 hours). It should be OK...

it did not power off, only the backlight did, i guess it didn't like the many power button presses so yeah do as Geared2003 said.

the solution is

1) press the up brightness key before trying anything else! (too late in your case, you need to hard reset)
2) that'll get the display back, then go to tcpmp advanced options and disable the backlight keepalive. (do this next time you install tcpmp)

Geared2003: could you change the registry setting or whatever file it is in for this in the media player package?

Cmonex, I have updated my package according to your suggestion. There is a new registry setting to prevent the 900c backlight bug.
I also added Y. Nagamidori's overclock utility (that I translated into English) as a separate CAB file. For 900c users, it may be necessary to overclock the device to 472Mhz, in order to play some FLV files with a high bitrate.

Thanks Geared2003 & CMonex. Okay I over-reacted. When I posted, the 900c was indeed a brick - but somehow it's come back to life.

I'll enjoy the status quo (functioning unit) for a while - before re-trying, armed with your tips.

Downloaded and tried the new media player last night. Great work Geared2003! The player was already my favorite, but is now even better. The overclock utility is a really nice find too.

Thanks for your work on these (and the nice shell and icon mods too). Really freshens an older device. My 900C is so useful with all the goodies available here at hpcfactor.com. Thanks again!!

Excellent work Geared

But i have a doubt if i overclocking my 900c as you suggest, what effects secondarys can have on life of the microprocessor?

It 's recommendable to modify the clock's frequency only when i use your HPC Media Player? What happens if the 900c works overclocked for much time?
