Update on the forum errors

Handheld PC News

What a difference a day makes. Just 24 little hours...

Around lunch time (GMT) today the forums crashed off-line. With code errors, or warnings that the board had been closed. Around an hour later the dreaded HPC:Factor "This site requires authorisation" bug reared its ugly head once again and everything went off-line.

The front face web server (www.hpcfactor.com) had simply run out of disk space through a overly hungry cache file, which caused the forums back end to experience an update anomaly, which caused the crash out.

We decided to use the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. John (who deserves a big round of applause), the HPC:Factor physical server administrator took the time this evening to re-imaging the server installation, install another much larger hard drive and we are pleased to report that by consolidating our three server system down into a two server operation we have now permanently eliminated the cause of the dreaded authentication error. Once and for all.

We would like to apologies to anyone inconvenienced or concerned by the outage. The upgrade was last minute and we had to rewrite quite a bit of code ad-hoc. HPC:Factor is back-up completely now. So Happy H/PCing.
