Some of our older readers might remember my 2007 review of the UsedHandhelds.com "The Great Handheld PC Software & Resource CD 2007".

At the time of the review, the resource CD cost $99.90 USD (£77.50 GBP), which represented good value for the software that was included. Back in 2007, this was a bargain for what you were getting as the individual retail price of the programs on the CD cost over $300 USD (£230 GBP). It became even more of an unmissable offer because it would soon become the only way to purchase the much lauded SoftMaker TextMaker 2002 and PlanMaker 2004 word processor and spread sheet applications for the Handheld PC.

In addition to SoftMaker Office, the Resource CD also contains fully licensed versions of the following software applications:
  • BizCalc 4.07
  • dBExplorer 1.6
  • DeInstaller HPC
  • DVD Catalyst GT
  • HPC Notes 4.3d Pro
  • HPC Spell 2.6
  • Kai's Access Manager
  • Lextionary
  • MBA-Calc
  • PocketBible 2.0.0.31
  • PocketDOS 1.11
  • Pocket On-Schedule 6.0
  • ScreenCapture Utility
Along with much, much more.

Here in 2019, not only is the Resource CD still available from UsedHandhelds.com, but it represents the only way to legally obtain much of the software on the list. Better still, that $99.90 price tag has been reduced to $39.95 (£31.50 GBP).

If you are new to the community and are looking to get hold of some great software, are looking for a good value deal or felt that the original price was too high the first time around. Click through to UsedHandhelds.com from my review to learn more and to purchase your copy.

Pocket On-Schedule is a great PIM app that pretty much justifies the new price all by itself. The others are nice apps to have too.

There is some really good stuff in there, certainly something for everyone and for that price, everyone should get one.

Wonderfully cool that the price has come down after 11 years!

To be fair on UsedHandheld's: I'm not actually sure when the price came down. I would surmise that it wasn't a recent thing.

Great...thanks for the notification on the price drop! It sold me on the deal...ordered it and look forward to discovering the bountiful treasures within. To be continued...

FYI: if you're thinking of buying this CD because you want PocketDOS, you can no longer register it. The CD instructions for registering lead to a page that says the promotion is no longer available. I emailed pocketdos.com yesterday asking if the promotion will come back and was told:

"That promotion has been dead for well over 10 years. It's not coming back, ever. You can purchase the software via the website."

PocketDOS seems to be the only full version of software on the CD requiring registration, so I think everything else will work. And PocketDOS will work in demo mode.

This is one of those CD's I intend on getting. But as idunno3 said, I'm afraid if I have to register the software, the sites will either be dead or the software unregistered due to the age and lack of updates or the companies no longer accepting registrations.
