As you may know, imov Messenger runs on the Jabber distributed instant
messaging network. This network is made up of many public and private
servers which may or may not run transports to connect to other IM services
such as MSN/Yahoo!/ICQ. Since the transports run on the servers, the ability
to communicate with those services depends on the correct operation of the
servers. imov Messenger does not communicate with the various IM services
directly, all communication is only with the Jabber server. The Jabber
server maintains the connection to the third party IM service. Therefore the
licensing to connect to the MSN Messenger network would be the
responsibility of the server operator to negotiate with Microsoft. It may
also be the case that server operators may independently choose to operate
their connection to the MSN service without a license.

However, to further address your concerns, the Jabber development community
is very much aware of the intention to change the MSN protocol and are
working to make sure that any interruption of service does not occur.
