![]() DigiTimes.com's Kaddy Chuang is reporting plans by Microsoft to release Windows CE 6.0, codename Card Hu to the public in the latter half of this year.
The comment, made by Microsoft director of device solution sales, Eddie Wu looks to place Microsoft in a continued strong position in the mobile device market place, with Windows CE reportedly accounting for 30% of the world's handheld devices market – a figure which continues to grow strongly. Windows CE 6.0 will replace its predecessor, the aptly named Windows CE 5.0 which is due to celebrate its second birthday early next month. CE6 aims to extend the digital lifestyle philosophy universally adopted throughout Microsoft, focusing increasingly on the multimedia and connectivity offerings of the mobile operating system. While no official announcements have been made regarding any platform releases based upon the CE6 core, Microsoft are expected to extend the Windows Mobile line as part of the first major product outings for the new CE release during 2007.
