We've been checking the status of messenger throughout the day, and the Messenger security upgrades now seem to be in effect.
Handheld PC clients seem to be down, as do the original Microsoft written Pocket PC clients.

There is no good news for Portrait and Messenger Force users, who at this time remain locked out.
